It’s no secret that committing yourself to a lifetime with another person can be nerve-wracking. It can feel impossible to keep calm on your wedding day with so much to worry about. From your Aunt Sue having one too many and telling everyone about the time that you peed your pants in second grade, to forgetting your vows and leaving the love of your life waiting expectedly, there are plenty of things that can go wrong on your special day. Despite all that, we swear it can be fun.
1. Remember You’re Not the Only One
Sometimes when we’re stressed it’s hard to remember that we’re not alone in our endeavors. In the case of a wedding, your significant other is right there with you! They might be having just as hard of a time keeping calm, even if it doesn’t seem like it. The worst thing that could happen is a broken line of communication because they don’t feel they can approach you with how they’re feeling.
2. Plan Everything
The last thing you want to be thinking about on the day-of is whether or not something has been finalized or ordered. This is one of the instances when having a wedding planner can make a huge difference. If you’ve done everything you need to before the wedding, there’s a much smaller chance of something catastrophic happening.
3. Believe it or Not – EAT!
Don’t give me that look; nothing will make a bride-to-be more grumpy than skipping breakfast. On days where stress levels spike, it’s even more important to give your body the nourishment it needs to deal with the adrenaline of the day. Missing a meal may seem like a good idea for the sake of your ego, but all it’s going to do is cause you to crash as soon as the ceremony is over. You’ve gone to your fittings like a good bride, now it’s time to celebrate. Plus, how are you supposed to enjoy the open bar on an empty stomach?
4. Trust the People Around You
If you’ve come this far, there must be something really special in the person you’ve chosen, and the way they make you feel. Trust that feeling and don’t let high-tensions come in the way of that. Don’t forget that the reason you get to be the star is because it’s your special day – your guests and even your bridal party probably won’t feel as on-edge as you do. You chose them the same way you chose whoever you’re marrying, let that be calming to you.
5. Have Fun!
The most cliché and important rule of all. You only get married once (hopefully). The memories you make that day -whether they be you having a full on Bridezilla melt-down, or you being the most lovable bride in history – are the ones that you, and your guests will carry for years to come. It’s not easy making big promises, but what’s the point if you don’t live it up? If something goes horribly wrong, find the humor in it in the moment and drown your sorrows in champagne later, you’re paying for it after all.
